White posted on Twitter that it's "not lookin good" as far as finding a replacement for Overeem to meet "Cigano" in May.
Mark Hunt, coming off a recent win over Stefan Struve, volunteered to step in and meet the former UFC heavyweight champion if UFC officials wanted him to.
"I want in troops and only the boss (White) can make it happen lets go army ATTACK the general wants in on this fight," Hunt wrote on Twitter after news of Overeem's exit was confirmed.
Overeem (36-12) and dos Santos (15-2) were scheduled to first meet back in 2012 for the UFC title, but Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test. Both fighters are coming off losses.
